Microperception and Residual Information by Ania Garcia

Talk and one-day exhibition by Ania García

This talk is about the process of work from Ania ’s printmaking practice to the analyses of industrially reproduced objects. She will explain the concepts of Microperception and Residual Information from her own point of view, reveal how they first appeared in her mind and relate them to the works of other artists. In every object reproduction system there are leaks; sometimes a single leak can produce a big amount of Residual Information. Ania will talk about her experience using that information to make art and the translation mechanisms she conceived. Finally, she will show some artworks to talk about the previous thoughts and ideas this process leads her to.

Short bio:

Ania García Llorente is a Cuban born artist living and working in Santiago de Chile. In the last couple of years, she has been working with lithography, sound sculptures, paper sculptures and drawing. Mainly the drawings give her hints as to how she should continue working. Her work today is a mix of expansive processes, which break or branch out according to her changing interests.

She is interested now in working with wood, paper, and metal to create objects as an act of translation from other objects found in industrial and natural environments.
